A month after her accident

If you guys read my post worse sound I've ever heard then you know that my little girl tipped hot tea onto herself resulting in 1st and 2nd degree burns on her cheek and up and down her arm. Well I don’t think I have to tell you that this past month has been a roller coaster of emotions, filled with tears, frustrations and a lot of self punishment, for the 1st 8 days or so we had to keep her arm lubricated with antibacterial ointment and wrapped up, we gave her pain meds before bath time (which was torture), and as her wounds began to heal the netting that we kept on her arm would stick, it took all the strength I had not to break down. She quit using that arm and we had to exercise it often, but I am happy to say that the worse is behind us. At our last visit to the burn hospital the doctor said that she has healed 100%, no infections, no more bandages, although it still looks pretty yucky her burns has been down graded to the level of a really bad sunburn. So now we have to massage sunscreen on her often and I also massage vitamin E and aloe Vera a few times a day, It could take up to a year for her pigment to return, she is using her arm like normal again, but she no longer likes bath time and every time she would see my tea cup she’d say “mommy mess” I have not forgiven myself 100% yet but prayers and mediation has helped. I thank god everyday that it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

7 foods we shouldn't eat

So I recently came across a article in the November issue of prevention (I know I’m way behind on my reading) and was surprised by some of the food on the do not eat list

1) Canned tomatoes, the problem: the lining of the tin cans contains Biphenyl-A, a synthetic estrogen that has been linked to diabetes, hear disease and obesity

The solution: choose tomatoes in glass bottles

2) Corn fed beef, the problem: Cattle were born to eat grass not grain and that means a lot less nutrition, grass feed beef is higher in vitamin E, omega-3, calcium and magnesium

The solution: Buy grass fed beef

Budget tip: cuts on the bone are cheaper, you can also buy direct from local farmers which can be as cheap as $5 per pound search eat wild.com

3) Microwave popcorn, the problem: chemicals including PFOA in the lining of the bag are linked to infertility, micro waving causes the chemicals to vaporize and migrate into the popcorn

The solution: Pop natural kernels the old fashioned way, its dirt cheap

4) Non organic potatoes, the problem: Root veggies absorb herbicides, pesticides and fungicides; they’re treated with fungicide during the growing season then sprayed with herbicide

The solution: Buy organic, washing good isn’t enough if you’re trying to remove chemicals that has been absorbed into the flesh

5) Farmed salmon, the problem: Nature didn’t mean for salmon to be crammed in pens and fed soy, poultry litter and chicken feathers and as a result we have been eating salmon with lower vitamin D levels and higher contamination

The solution: Switch to wild caught Alaska salmon

Budget tip: canned salmon, almost exclusively from wild catch and can be found for as little as $3 a can

6) Milk produced with artificial hormones, the problem: Milk producers treat their cattle with rBGH t boost milk production but it also increase udder infections and even pus in the milk

The solution: Check labels for rBGH or rBST- free, produced without artificial hormones or organic milk

Budget tip: Try Wal-Mart’s great value label, which does not use Rbgh

7) Conventional apples, the problem: Apples don’t develop resistance to pest and are sprayed frequently

The solution: Buy organic apples

Budget tip: If you can’t afford organic, be sure to wash and peel them before you eat
